Clean Slate Now Action

At CleanSlateNowAction.org, we believe that our elected officials should put their constituents first, not their campaign contributors.  Unfortunately, our political system has been undermined in a profound way by the significant role played by special interest groups in financing campaigns.

To fix this system, we need to elect leaders across the political spectrum who commit to passing meaningful reform and to putting their constituents first.

CSNA_Logo_BlueRed.jpgCleanSlateNowAction.org advocates for the reforms our campaign funding system needs and on behalf of candidates who will fight for these needed reforms, including by swearing off the support of special interest groups PACs and/or Super PACs.

Colorado Legislative Candidates Who Will Lead on Campaign Reform

unnamed.jpgLast month, we sent a questionnaire to every candidate for Colorado State House and Senate.  The questionnaire focused on determining which candidates will lead on the need for campaign reform in Colorado and asked the following five questions.

    1. Will you accept or have you accepted campaign contributions from special interest groups or organizations through any means, including political committees, political action committees, small donor committees, or any other form?  (This does not include political party contributions.)
    2. Will you establish or have you established your own Leadership PAC?
    3. Will you accept or have you already accepted money from registered lobbyists?
    4. If elected, would you support efforts to overturn Citizens United, including a Constitutional amendment and a litmus test for Supreme Court nominees?
    5. If elected, would you lead efforts to enact public financing of elections?

So far, we have heard back from 15 candidates who have indicated they plan to lead on this issue in the way they fund their campaigns or in their legislative priorities in office, or both.  The following table highlights those candidates' responses.

Ask Candidates to Say No to Special Interest Money

What we are asking is simple - for candidates and elected officials to turn down special interest group money and instead run clean campaigns, free of the corrupting influence of that money.

Voters need to know that they will come first, not special interest group donors.

Here is the agreement we ask candidates to sign, send back to us, and live up to:

    Clean Campaign Agreement

If you need help finding out who your elected officials are or how to reach them, you can find that out by entering in your nine digit zip code at VoteSmart.org. (If you don’t know your nine digit zip code, you can find it here).
